Adapt one topic into distinct content formats

A content workspace with camera and notebook

A substantial article can support several formats without repeating the same text everywhere. Begin with a shared factual core, then give each format a distinct job suited to the way people will use it.

Consider caring for an oiled wooden surface. An article can explain materials and the sequence of work. A short video can show one movement. A photograph can make the required quantity visible. An email can remind readers when the task is appropriate. These are hypothetical content examples, not claims about completed customer projects.

Maintain the common factual core

Keep verified details in a central location: material, limitations, product names and approvals. If information changes, every derived format should be easy to find. Otherwise an outdated recommendation can remain in a short post after the main article has been corrected.

Also identify information a shorter version must retain. An important limitation is part of the explanation, not an optional filler. If it cannot be communicated clearly within the format, choose a different subject or clearly direct readers to the necessary explanation.

Match the format to the task

Video should show something that movement makes easier to understand. A sequence of images can reveal differences through comparison. Text can explain background information a photograph cannot show. Choose the format for that purpose rather than following a fixed conversion checklist.

Rewrite the opening and ending for each destination. Someone seeing a standalone photograph may never have encountered the article. Conversely, a newsletter does not need to repeat the article's entire story when its purpose is to highlight one new point.

Check the connection

Link to the relevant explanation rather than automatically to the homepage. Verify that the destination actually contains the promised answer. A link does not excuse a misleading or incomplete short post.

Assess formats separately according to their purpose. Saving a care reminder and clicking through to a detailed explanation are different responses. Fewer clicks do not automatically mean a format performed its job less effectively. What matters is whether the relevant information is understandable, accurate and available when needed. Keeping that distinction visible also prevents the team from forcing every useful idea into a format that adds no value.
