Outline a short service explainer video

A camera recording beside a laptop

A service explainer video should primarily reduce uncertainty about the process. A sequence of attractive working scenes is insufficient if customers still do not know what to prepare or do next.

Begin with one situation. For a repair service, it might be the information needed before the first appointment. A different video could explain the distinction between inspection and repair. Combining both may already be too much for a short recording.

Write the explanation first

Describe the intended message in a few sentences. Read it aloud and remove abstract promotional language. “We inspect the condition first and then discuss the possible work” describes a process. “We create individual solutions” leaves it unexplained.

Mark statements that need an image. A recording can show where to find a model number or how to prepare an item for handover. Other details, such as arranging an appointment, may be clearer in plain language than in staged symbolic footage.

Connect pictures and speech

Create a simple sketch with an image idea, the spoken sentence and any important on-screen text. No special software is necessary. Check whether each image explains the sentence or merely decorates it.

Allow enough time to see details. An important label should not disappear after a barely noticeable moment. Consider viewers using a small screen or watching without sound. Check captions, particularly technical terms and numbers.

Include the process boundaries

Do not present every job as identical when the work depends on an inspection. Explain where an individual quotation or follow-up question enters the process. A clear sequence can reduce uncertainty without creating a price or timing promise the business cannot make.

Show the draft to someone outside the business and ask them to describe the next step. If they cannot, add a specific instruction and the relevant contact route.

Before publication, inspect visible names, customer possessions and background conversations again. Keep the editable version. When the process changes, the video should be updated alongside the corresponding service page. Otherwise a polished explanation can continue directing people through a process the business no longer uses.
