Assess claims about rankings and AI search

A search page open during laptop work

An offer promising fixed top rankings or guaranteed mentions in AI answers deserves particularly specific questions. The important distinction is between work the supplier will deliver and outcomes the supplier can actually control.

Break the promise into parts

Ask for the search term, region, period and measurement method. A screenshot of one search is not reliable evidence of lasting visibility. Results can change, and a highly specific phrase may have little connection to real customer questions.

A promised technical deliverable is different from a promised ranking. A supplier can revise named pages, document errors and test redirects. It does not control an entire search results page or competitors' actions.

Check claims about new search features

For Google's AI features, the official documentation does not identify special additional optimizations or dedicated AI files as requirements. That is not a universal statement about every other AI system. Ask for a relevant, current source whenever a claim concerns a particular platform.

Have the supplier explain the specific problem a proposed file, markup change or content revision would address. A measure may have organizational value without a demonstrated effect on visibility. The proposal should make that distinction clear.

Be cautious with reports that treat observation as proof of cause. More visits after a change may partly result from the change. Without further investigation, demand, advertising or other influences cannot be ruled out.

Buy work you can inspect

A reviewable proposal describes the starting situation, affected pages, tasks, responsibilities and verification results. It also explains which account access is required and how changes can be reversed.

Ask for a sample report with other clients' confidential information removed. Can you distinguish completed tasks, measured developments and unresolved hypotheses? Does the report explain how disappointing results will be investigated?

Finally, consider the business question. Ranking for an arbitrary phrase has limited value if the offer does not suit the people reached. Relevant enquiries, understandable service pages and working contact routes remain concrete things to examine even as the search interface changes. They also make it easier to judge whether the purchased work has improved the website itself, rather than merely producing more impressive terminology in a presentation.
